LOUIS E. KESZEI

Sept. 18, 1928 - July 1, 2010
SOUTH BEND - Louis E. Keszei, 81, of South Bend and Ft. Myers, FL, died on Thursday, July 1st, after a battle with cancer. Louie was born on September 18, 1928, in Port Huron, MI, to Vincent M. and Matilda B. (Horvath) Keszei.

Louie retired from the St. Joseph County Health Department as Supervisor of Environmental Health after 41 years. He also helped run the family business, Vincent's Bar in South Bend's Hungarian neighborhood until it closed in 1969. Louie and his brother Emery co-owned the former Jack & Jill Shoe Store in downtown South Bend. On August 21, 1954, Louie married Elizabeth A. Toth, who survives.

Surviving with his wife of 55 years are his sons, Vincent A. Keszei, MD, and his wife, Jackie of Roscoe, IL, Frank L. Keszei and his wife, Sue of South Bend, Andy T. Keszei and his wife, Kris of Granger, and James V. Keszei and his wife, Jill of Ft. Wayne; grandchildren, Angela, Matthew, Alex, Abby, Adam, Andrea, Addyson, Nick, Gena, Cory, Drew and Conrad Keszei; his brother, Emery (Maryanne) Keszei of South Bend; a sister-in-law, Rosemary (John) Reiter of South Bend; a brother-in-law, Andy (Darlene) Toth of Molokai, Hawaii; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his twin daughter and son, Nancy and Edward; sisters, Yolanda Hanley, Irene Derdak and Maryanne Bergh; and brothers, Alex, Joseph, Frank and Michael Keszei.

Louie graduated in 1947 from Washington High School, served his country during the Korean Conflict in the United States Army, was a St. Joseph County Democratic Precinct Committeeman for over 30 years, and belonged to St. Jude Catholic Church.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, July 6th, in the Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive, South Bend, where a Rosary will be prayed at 4:30 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, July 7th, in St. Jude Catholic Church, 19704 Johnson Road, South Bend.
