LORRAINE "PASKIET" KERTIS
Lorraine Kertis Aug. 10, 1925 - July 3, 2014 SOUTH BEND - Lorraine Kertis, 88, of South Bend, Indiana, passed away at 6:45 a.m. Thursday, July 3, 2014, in St. Joseph Regional Medical Center. Lorraine was born on August 10, 1925, in South Bend, to Leo and Bernice (Borowski) Paszkiet, and was a lifelong resident. She had been employed as a Registered Nurse with Memorial Hospital, Dr. Clark, Torrington, American Red Cross (where she traveled to a number of disasters) and South Bend Lathe. Lorraine retired in 1983.
On August 14, 1948, in St. Casimir Church, she married her high school sweetheart, Eugene Kertis. Eugene passed away on September 1, 2001. Lorraine was also preceded in death by her parents, Eugene and Bernice Paszkiet; and her brother, Eugene Paszkiet. Having no children of their own, Lorraine and Eugene served as a second set of parents for Judy and John Byers. Judy and John survive.
Lorraine was a graduate of Washington High School and Memorial School of Nursing in 1947.
Lorraine and Eugene enjoyed spending their free time traveling, golfing, and partaking in many different investment opportunities at horse tracks and casinos.
A Memorial Mass will be held at a later date in St. Therese Little Flower Church. Memorial contributions may be made to the Center for Hospice Care or the Make a Wish Foundation. Kaniewski Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. To send online condolences, please visit Kaniewski.com.
