SOUTH BEND - Gerald L. "Joz" Jozwiak, 78, "a beloved husband, dad and papa," of South Bend, IN, passed away on Monday, May 16, 2011, in Hospice House of St. Joseph County. He was born on July 31, 1932, to the late Frank and Clara (Milewski) Jozwiak in South Bend, IN, and was a lifelong resident. Along with his parents, one sister, Ruth Knapp, and one brother, Marion Jozwiak, also preceded him in death.

Mr. Jozwiak retired in 1994 from Casteel Construction Company in South Bend, IN, where he worked as a Local 413 union carpenter.

On July 27, 1957, he married Dorothy M. Klosinski at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in LaPorte, IN. He is survived by his loving wife, Dorothy of nearly 54 years; four daughters, Lori (Ernest) Paar of Warsaw, IN, Lynne (David) Holewczynski of New Carlisle, IN, Lisa Spiegel of Mishawaka, IN, Liette (Scott) Shonborn of Noblesville, IN; 10 grandchildren, Joshua, Timothy and Alicia Holewczynski, Jason McFarland and Thomas Spiegel, Emily, Betsy and Melissa Paar, Corey and Erin Shonborn; one great-grandson, Morgan Burnham; one sister, Dorothy Burzynski of South Bend, IN; and brother, Leonard Jozwiak of Berrien Center, MI.

Gerald lost his parents at an early age and was raised by his maternal uncle and aunt, Ted and Theresa Milewski.

He attended Washington High School and enlisted in the Marine Corps. He proudly served his country as a U.S. Marine Corporal. Following his honorable discharge from the Marines, he met and married Dorothy, the true love of his life. Together they had four daughters and raised them in the home that he lovingly built. Jerry enjoyed spending time with his family most of all. He also was an avid fisherman, loved the outdoors, and feeding the hummingbirds on his back porch. He enjoyed bike rides, Notre Dame football, NASCAR, traveling and gardening. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. Semper FI!!

A memorial visitation will be held from 2-8 p.m. Thursday, May 19, 2011, in the Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive, South Bend, IN, where a parish Rosary will be prayed at 4 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, May 20, 2011, in St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, where military services will follow.
