MARCIA M. JONES

Aug. 12, 1951 - July 27, 2012
SOUTH BEND - Mother Marcia Marie Jones, 60, who resided on West Washington, South Bend, Indiana, departed this life on Friday, July 27, 2012, in her home after an illness. She passed away peacefully. She was born in South Bend, Indiana, on August 12, 1951, to the union of Joseph D. and Vivian (Coleman) Jones.

She attended Washington High School.

Over 30 years ago, Sister Marcia Marie Jones was saved and filled with the Holy Ghost under the spiritual guidance of Pastor Rosie Haynes of Haynes Miracle Temple. At the time of her passing, she was a member of St. Luke Church of God in Christ. Her formative years in the church began at Saints Memorial Church of God in Christ (Liberty Street). There, along with her parents and siblings, she learned through the Lord how to help herself and others as well. During her fellowship at Haynes Miracle Temple and St. Luke COGIC, she served the Lord in many capacities. She assisted with the food bank, which included picking up and distributing food to those in need. Providing transportation, counseling, and whatever financial assistant she could spare to those in need. She was a faithful member and diligent worker for over 30 years at Haynes Miracle Temple at St. Luke COGIC.

Mother Marcia Marie Jones leaves to cherish her loving memory four sisters, Evangelist Marcella L. Jones-Preston (Pastor Fred), Miss Arena M. Jones, Mrs. Cynthia C. Jones-McKnight (Freddie) and Miss Katherine L. Jones; four brothers, John E. Coleman (Pam), Larry J. Jones, Caesar Jones and Lawrence Jones; a very special goddaughter, Sabrina Haynes, and a godson, Lawrence Haynes. Nieces and nephews who attended to her during her illness include Tanya Marie Jones (named after Marcia Marie), Joseph D. White, Ilicia F. McKnight, Cierra R. Jones, Cedric R. Moodie Jr. and Chailyn Malone. Chailyn was her great-niece who would stay with Marcia Marie overnight to help in any way she could. Other nieces and nephews include Nicole Jones, Julian Jones, Aricka Jones, Shayla Chapman, Jonathan Coleman and David Coleman. She had a host of great-nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

A very special friend and spiritual advisor who Marie often referred to as her Mother in the Lord is Pastor Rosie Haynes. Marie often credited Evangelist Rosie Haynes with bringing her back into the church when she strayed away from God. Other very close friends included Sister Rochelle McKenzie, Sister Patricia Matthews, Missionary Dorothy Alford Vaughn and Ronetta Hernton.

In closing, Marcia Marie Jones was an avid sports fan. She loved basketball and football. She especially loved seeing her nephew, Cedric R. Moodie Jr., play basketball. She would sometimes drive over 300 miles to see him play during his college and semi-professional games. In addition to working in the church and assisting her family, watching her nephew throughout his basketball career was her favorite thing to do.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, August 4, at Saints Memorial Church of God in Christ (Liberty Street), with burial on Monday, August 6, at Riverview Cemetery. Friends may call Friday, August 3, from 6 to 8 p.m. in Alford's Mortuary, 1222 Napier St., South Bend, Indiana.
