FRANCIS E. JONES

Francis (Al) Jones was born in Stockwell, IN, September 24, 1920. He graduated from Stockwell High School in 1940. He married Florine Dawson on January 9, 1942. From 1942-1945, he served in the U.S. Coast Guard, U.S.S. Wakefield, a troop transport ship. After WWII, he attended Indiana State University, on the G.I. Bill, and earned a B.S. and M.S. in Education.

He had four children with Florine, Stephen Jones, who is deceased, (spouse: Latreva), Douglas Jones (spouse: Betsy), Brenda Poer (spouse: Bruce), and Greg Jones (spouse: Dawn). The family grew to eleven grandchildren and twenty-six great-grandchildren.

He taught machine shop at Washington High School, South Bend, IN, for thirty years.

In 1968, Francis married Norma Simcox, of LaPorte, IN. Francis was an avid golfer and played into his eighties. He enjoyed bowling, fishing, and playing cards. One of his favorite pastimes was playing bingo at the Eagles and Knights of Columbus. He loved being with his family and friends. He had a wonderful life.
