Dorothy Sue Hathaway (Seymour) - Class Of 1955 VIEW PROFILE

DOROTHY S. (HATHAWAY) SEYMOUR

Dorothy Sue Hathaway Seymour died peacefully in her home on Feb. 4, 2016, after a prolonged illness. She had been surrounded by her loving family. Dorothy was born in Long Beach, Wash., on June 1, 1936, to Herbert Lloyd Hathaway and Lydiabell Alta Martin. She was the oldest of twin daughters.

Dorothy graduated from South Bend Washington High School in 1955.

She later relocated to Vancouver, Wash., where she went on to school to be an accountant/bookkeeper. In 1971, Dorothy became a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, a membership she held very dear to her heart to the very end. In about 1979, Dorothy came to Alaska, to work as a bookkeeper in a remote logging camp. She returned to Alaska the following season, relocating to Anchorage where she remained, going to work for Hickel Investment Company as an accountant. She retired from Hickel Investment Company after more than 20 years.

Dorothy's life was filled with a lot of adventure and joy. In 1994, life truly began for Dorothy when she met the love of her life, Jack. They spent the next 22 years together enjoying life and the things that mattered most to them which included each other, their children, friends and traveling. Dorothy loved children, most importantly hers. This included her six children, four stepchildren and one adopted daughter. She also loved her many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She valued her role as wife and mother. Her husband describes her as the perfect wife, a woman who is willing to give and love unconditionally. Dorothy had so much love to give that she shared it with many who were not necessarily family. She is a woman with a lot of love and everyone who interacted with her experienced that love. She and Jack shared that love as they served for several years as mentors for the Alaska Youth Academy, where she later received the Community Service with Youth Award from Governor Sarah Palin.

Dorothy is survived by her loving and eternal companion, Jack; and their two, dogs Lexie and Frank. She also leaves behind her children, Laurie (Mike) May of Ogden, Utah, Sandy (Bill) Stagelman of Anchorage, Bryan (Julia) Rohr of Soldotna, Alaska, Holly (Mike) Wagoner of Boise, Idaho, Dana Smith of Olympia, Wash., Norm (Theadra) Walls of Soldotna, Mark (Marta) Seymour of Seattle, Wash., Heather (Will) Krause of Seattle, Traci (Scott) Rutowski of Pearland, Texas, Matt Seymour of Seattle and Kristine Wright of San Diego, Calif. She is also survived by one brother, Richard (Peggy) Pearson of Raymond, Wash.; and one sister, Anne Clevenger of South Bend, Wash.; with many nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and family. She will be buried in Raymond, Wash., at the Fern Hill Cemetery beside her twin sister, Dorothea.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Herbert Hathaway and Richard and Lydiabell Pearson; sisters, Emma Pine, Dorothea Bales and Janet Nieland; brother, Herbert Hathaway.
