ROBERT "BOB" HURST

SOUTH BEND - Robert "Bob" Hurst, 66, of South Bend, IN, passed away Monday, February 20, 2012, in his home. He was born on December 9, 1945, in South Bend, IN, to Floyd and Mary Ann (Conrad) Hurst. Bob is survived by his son, Ian Hurst of South Bend, IN; granddaughter, Madelyn Hurst; and his mother, Mary Ann Carter of New Carlisle, IN. He was preceded in death by his father.

Bob was a 1963 graduate of Washington High School.

He worked for the City of South Bend in the Street Department and Traffic and Lighting for over 20 years. However, his true passion was stepping out onto any softball field as an umpire for the ASA (Amateur Softball Association). He was well-respected and recognized many times for his excellence in umpiring by the ASA, including being honored for his work at the dedication ceremony of the Belleville Softball Complex. He was also an avid hunter of ducks and geese. Bob was a kind and beloved father, son, grandfather and friend. He will be missed but his memory will live on forever.

A time of sharing will be held at a memorial service from 5:00-8:00 p.m. Friday, February 24, 2012, in the Palmer Funeral Home-Guisinger Chapel, 3718 S. Michigan St., South Bend. In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Robert "Bob" Hurst may be made to the South Bend Parks and Recreation Department for the Belleville Softball Complex.
