GEORGE J. GROCHOWSKI

Nev. 25, 1934 - May 6, 2008
SOUTH BEND - George J. Grochowski, 73, passed away on Tuesday, May 6, in Hospice House, South Bend. He was born on November 25, 1934, in Weis Drenstwo, Poland, to the late Chester and Harriett (Lacinska) Grochowski. He moved to the area when he was 11 years old and lived in the area all of his life.

He attended St. Adalbert Grade School and Washington High School.

On June 27, 1959, in St. Monica Church, Mishawaka, he married Dorothy Wieczorek, who survives. He is also survived by his two sons, Gary Grochowski of South Bend and David Grochowski of Mishawaka; his grandson, Jeffery Grochowski of South Bend; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and golfing buddies. Along with his parents he was preceded in death by a brother, Slawian "Slake" Grochowski, and recently a sister, Jane Sue Grochowski, on February 19, 2008.

Mr. Grochowski was the co-owner of the Karl Weis Body Shop, Inc., and worked there for 55 years. He purchased the business with his partner in 1967. He was a United States Army veteran, a parishioner of Little Flower Catholic Church, a member of the Elks BPOE #235, and a former member of the P.N.A. #83, and the South Bend Country Club where he made a hole-in-one on the fourth hole. He was an avid golfer, ND fan, Chicago Bears fan and an animal lover. He would always feed the neighborhood dogs treats. George would lend a helping hand to anyone who needed help. He was really fussy about his yard, and when he was feeling good he loved to go out to dinner with his friends.

George was a very loving husband, father and grandfather. He adored his boys and loved spending time with his grandson. He will be greatly missed!

Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Friday, May 9, in the Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N.
