HAMPTON GRIFFIN
Hampton Griffin June 21, 1941 - July 17, 2014 SOUTH BEND - Hampton Griffin, 73, of South Bend, Indiana passed away peacefully on Thursday July 17, 2014 at Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center. He was born in Boyle, Mississippi to John and Mamie Griffin; he lived the majority of his life in South Bend, Indiana.
Hampton was a passionate man who worked as machinist, a truck driver, a beautician and the majority of his life as the owner-operator of the Griffin's Upholstery. He was a Christian man and member of the Progressive Missionary Baptist Church. He loved God, his family and his brothers. He was a sports fan and enjoyed professional basketball, Notre Dame and Florida State Football.
He is survived by his wife and best friend of 56 years, Mary Dean (Nelson) Griffin; Hampton was extremely fond and proud of his five sons: Hampton Jr. (Mary) Griffin of Atlanta, GA, Alvin (Cherry) Griffin of Fontana, CA, Adrian (Beverly) Griffin of Bradenton, FL; Michael (Pamela) Griffin, and Marcus (Kathy) Griffin, all of South Bend; his brother, John (Earlie) of Louisville, KY; 20 grand-children; 34 great grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and in-laws.
Hampton was preceded in death by his mother and father, John and Mamie Griffin; his sisters: Daisy Burns and Martha Dotson; his brothers: Ernest Griffin, Ernest Dotson, Jerry C. Griffin, Albert "Pete" Griffin, Jesse "JD" Griffin, and Matthew "Matt" Griffin.
Services for Hampton Griffin will be held on Tuesday, July 22, 2014 in Progressive Missionary Baptist Church, 1232 E. Bronson Street, South Bend. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. and funeral service at 11:00 a.m. Sign his guestbook at www.clarkoneal.com. Arrangements entrusted to Clark-O'Neal Funeral Home.
