ROBERT "BOB" GORBACZ

SOUTH BEND - Robert "Bob" Gorbacz passed away on Wednesday, February 6, 2013. He was born to Sam and Julia Gorbacz, both immigrants from Russia. He went to Harrison and Washington schools in South Bend.

Upon graduation from Washington High School, he was drafted by the U.S. Army. His basic training was at Camp Chaffee, Arkansas. Then he was sent to Korea. He was a Korean War veteran. After his honorable discharge from the Military, he used the G.I. Bill to attend Indiana University in South Bend.

The Post Office offered him employment and he quit college after one semester. He started as a letter carrier and became a Customer Service Representative. He retired in 1992 after working 36 years for the Postal Service. In 1999 he obtained an Oreck Franchise which he owned and operated until cancer struck him.

He spent the last 30 days of his life at Brentwood of Niles, where he received excellent compassionate care from the staff and Hospice.

There will be no services or visitation, per his request. Hahn Funeral Home, 505 W. 8th Street, Mishawaka has been entrusted with handling the final arrangements.

Survivors include his sister, Ann (Bill) Booker of Columbiana, OH; brothers, Samuel John Gorbacz of Battle Creek, MI, and Walter Gorbacz of California, and his twin brother, Gene Gorbacz of South Bend.
