SOUTH BEND - Ernest V. Garza, 52, of South Bend, IN passed away at 8:50 a.m. Saturday, February 6, 2016 at South Bend Hospice House. He was born on August 17, 1963 in South Bend, IN to Ernesto V. and the late Carmen (Hernandez) Garza. Ernest married Martha Olivarez on February 20, 1993 in South Bend, IN; she survives at home.

Ernest is also survived by his children: daughter, Tiffiney Garza and sons, Ernesto and Devin Garza, as well as his sisters, Rosa (Jesse) Garza, Ninfa Garza, Delia (Jaime) Ortiz and Alisia Garza; and his brothers, Ramon Garza Sr., Jose Garza and Rudy (Becky) Garza. He also leaves behind a loving extended family of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and great-niece, Jaylah D. Garza.

Ernest was a lifelong resident of South Bend, first attending school at St. Casimir and later graduating from Washington High School in 1981, but he never lost his Panther pride. He proudly served in the United States Army and was affectionately known as the family Sergeant or “the Boss”. Forever a sports fan, Ernest rooted for the Bears, White Sox, Notre Dame, and Texas. His love of baseball led him to become a pitcher and eventually a coach for the South Bend Padres and Holy Family. Ernest spent time working as a semi-truck driver. Another passion of his was music, especially Tejano and he also worked as DJ Master G. Ernest, enjoyed Coke, but never Diet, getting a rise out of others, but most of all spending time with his family.

The family would like to say a special thank you to the members of Hospice House and to the nurses on the 3rd floor of Memorial Hospital for their care and kindness.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, February 11, 2016 at St. Casimir Catholic Church, 1309 Dunham Street, South Bend, IN 46619, with cremation to follow. Friends may call from 5-7 p.m. Wednesday, February 10, at Palmer Funeral Home - West Chapel, 2702 Lincoln Way West, South Bend, IN 46628. Contributions in memory of Ernest may be made to the family c/o Palmer Funeral Home-West Chapel. Online condolences may be left for the Garza family at www.palmerfuneralhomes.com.
