PHYLLIS V. (VANDENBOSSCHE) FERENCE

Phyllis V. Ference Sept. 7, 1927 - June 6, 2014 NILES - Phyllis V. Ference, age 86, of Niles, passed away at 2:45 p.m. Friday at her daughter's home in Granger, IN. Phyllis was born September 7, 1927, in South Bend, to the late Henry and Melanie (VanTorn-hout) VandenBossche, and had lived in this area all of her life; in Niles since 1956. On June 28, 1947, in Mishawaka, she married Paul Ference Jr., who preceded her in death on July 12, 2013.

Survivors include her two daughters, Melanie Weller of Granger, IN, Elizabeth (Jim) Jesse of Charlotte, NC; a son, Paul (Sandy) Ference of New Port Richie, FL; three grandsons, James (Suzanne) Jesse of Connecticut, Ryan Jesse of Charlotte, NC, Sean Ference of Hudson, FL; four great-grandchildren, Lily, Brighton, Lorelei and SaraBeth. Also surviving are a niece, Sandra VanBruaene, and two nephews, Philip and Michael VandenBossche.

Phyllis was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Heather Jo Ference, and two sisters, Marguerite Mynsberge and Dorothy Jean VanBruaene.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, June 10, at the Palmer Funeral Home - Hickey Chapel, 17131 Cleveland Road, South Bend, IN 46635. Entombment will follow at Highland Cemetery, South Bend. Friends may gather with the family from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Phyllis was valedictorian of her class at Washington High School, South Bend.

She was an avid reader and loved to work crossword puzzles. Phyllis enjoyed gardening and her flower gardens were always breathtaking. She was a devoted wife, mother, grand and great-grandmother. She loved life, loved people, and always had a beautiful smile for everyone.
