HARRIET M. EPPENGER

Jan. 2, 1952 - Jan. 21, 2008
MISHAWAKA - Harriet Marie Eppenger (granny) of Mishawaka, fought a hard battle for the past 10 years with what she called "the c word". Her battle is over. On Jan. 2, 1952, she was born to the late Darnell and Cecelia Lee Eppenger in South Bend. She departed her earthly life on Jan. 21, 2008, with her special nephew Cedric Adams Jr. at her bedside. Harriet had professed to hope in Christ and served faithfully at Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of the Reverend Leneal Williams, where she served on the usher board and really loved her church family ("for real").

Harriet leaves to mourn her passing, to cherish her memories, and to celebrate her homegoing, five children, Shevella (Terrence) Banks, Alfred (Tiffany) Fultz, D'Andre Winston, Juliet Vann, all of South Bend, and Shayla Stroud of Indianapolis.

Preceding her in death, Darnell and Cecelia L. Eppenger, a sister Ernestine D. Eppenger, and a son, Robert Darnell Winston.

Eleven grandchildren, Terrence (Jr.) and Tyler Banks, Armani and Shamon Stroud, N'yejha and Skylar Fultz, Jeremiah Dockery, D'Naysia and D'Jon Winston all of South Bend. Delana Mitchell of Indianapolis and D'Andre Winston Jr. of Louisville, KY; Siblings, Adolphus Eppenger (Louisville), Charles Eppenger, Sheree (Robert) Pollard, Diana (Jessie) Winston, Brenda (Lionel) Johnson, Wilehemia Eppenger all of South Bend. A sister-in-law, Thelma Eaton of Memphis, TN, and one very special friend, through thick and thin to the very end, Sharon Honeycutt Walker (Miss Hen) of Linwood, IL.

Harriet graduated from Washington High School, South Bend. She also attended Ivy Tech of South Bend, IN and Premier Beauty College.

She worked for the YWCA of St. Joseph County, Allied Stamping Division of South Bend and the South Bend Tribune (1994-2005) until "the c word" slowed her down. She made many friends everywhere she went, she will truly be missed, thank God for the years we shared with her.

Services for Harriet will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday Jan. 27, in Clark O'Neal Funeral Home, 2702 Lincolnway W. South Bend, IN 46628. Homegoing celebration will be Monday Jan 28 in Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church, 1122 E. Miner St., South Bend, IN at noon. Special thanks to the staff at memorial hospital 10th floor and Hospice Palliative Care, we couldn't have done it without you. In lieu of flowers please send donations c/o Sheree Pollard to Clark O'Neal Funeral Home.
