Versie Mae (Triplett) English

May 24, 1942 - Dec. 9, 2020

SOUTH BEND, IN -

On Wednesday, December 9, 2020, Versie Mae Triplett-English, loving mother of three children, passed away at the age of 78.

Versie was born in Proctor, Arkansas on May 24, 1942 to Lucille Smith and Warren (Walter) Lytle. She attended Washington High School in South Bend, Indiana. On September 13, 1962, she married Quentin English.

As the eldest of 13 children, Versie answered to many names - among them, “Big little sister” and “Boss”. To her church family and friends, she was “Miss Versie”. If you were a friend of her children, she was “Mom”. Of all the titles, the one she held most dear was “Grandma” - second only to the title of “Child of God”.

Versie was an active member of Resurrection Life Church in Grandville, MI and prior to moving to Michigan was a member of Sweet Home Ministries in South Bend, IN.

Throughout her time on earth, she met and touched many lives with her kindness, empathy, and the ability to know just the right words to speak (or not speak) in any given situation. Her infectious smile and sense of humor made her loved and respected by all who met her.

Her life will forever be reflected in the lives of her children, Quentin (Martyn) English II of Las Vegas, NV, Crystal English of San Diego, CA, and Nina English of Jenison, MI; her five brothers, Charles (Ann) Triplet of Kalamazoo, MI, Herman Wills of South Bend, IN, Larry (Damita) Wills of Mequon, WI, Curtis (Becky) Wills of Holland, MI, and Phillip (Birgit) Wills of Copperas Cove, TX; two sisters, Minnie Wills of South Bend, IN and Phyllis Wills of Houston, TX; her sisters-in-law, Theresa (Sherman) Wills of Indianapolis, IN and Glen (Willie Jr.) Wills of South Bend, IN, one grandchild and one great-grandchild, as well as many cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.

She was preceded in death by her former husband, Quentin English I; parents, Warren Lytle and Lucille Smith-Wills; adopted father, James Triplett; stepfather, Willie Wills Sr.; three sisters, Elzina Triplett-Henry, Joyce Wills-Stafford, and Doretha Wills-Shelton; and two brothers, Sherman Wills and Willie Wills Jr.

The family of the late Versie English wishes to acknowledge with sincere thanks and gratitude the prayers and outpouring of love during her illness and our time of bereavement. We give special thanks to the entire staff of Mercy Health St. Mary's and Heartland Hospice. We will never be able to adequately express how much we appreciate all of you and please know we are truly grateful.

Due to the Coronavirus, a service will not be held at this time. A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Alford's Mortuary has been entrusted with arrangements. To leave an online condolence please visit our webpage and sign the guest book at www.alfordsmortuaryinc.com.
