Phyllis Jean Fair (Dalke) - Class Of 1941 VIEW PROFILE

SOUTH BEND - Phyllis Jean Dalke, 84, passed away on Saturday, September 22, 2007, in the Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center, South Bend. She was born on April 16, 1923, in South Bend, IN, to Oral Fair and Mabel (Whitaker) Fair. As a child she grew up in North Liberty, IN. Phyllis graduated from Washington High School in 1941.

On September 11, 1944, in Ardmore, OK, she married Eugene D. Luczkowski; they remained married until his death in 1973. Phyllis is survived by her husband of 28 years, Benedict J. Dalke; a sister, Jeanette Hinton, and her husband, Blake of North Platte, NE. She is also survived by a son, James D. Luczkowski, and his wife, Nancy, along with their children, Traci Wiegand, Douglas Luczkowski and Keith Luczkowski; two daughters, Nancy O'Blenis and her husband, William, and their two daughters, Jennifer Pellow and Tricia O'Blenis, and Judy Luczkowski and Bobby Dunn with their children, Benjamin, Crystal and Zachary Luczkowski; one stepdaughter, Mary Jo Grice, and her husband, Jerry, along with their children, Jay and Amanda Grice. She also has 11 great-grandchildren.

A grandson, Matthew Bahr, preceded her in death.

Phyllis had several jobs in her life. She worked at Oliver Printing, E.H. Tepe, and retired from the University of Notre Dame Hesburgh Library where she had many friends. One of her greatest passions in life was fishing. She, along with her husband Ben, spent many hours around Linton and Dugger, Indiana, where they camped and fished. She loved working crossword puzzles, playing board games and her favorite game, Chickenfoot dominoes. Ben and Phyllis are members of St. Jude Catholic Church. Phyllis loved her family with all her heart and she will be greatly missed by all.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, September 26, 2007, in St. Jude Catholic Church, 19704 Johnson Road, South Bend, IN. Rev. John Delaney will officiate. Burial will follow at Southlawn Cemetery, South Bend. Friends may visit with the family from 4 to 8 p.m. today, September 25, 2007, in the Palmer Funeral Home-Guisinger Chapel, 3718 S. Michigan St., South Bend. Contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, 3816 Paysphere Circle, Chicago, IL 60674.
