GERALDINE A. (AUSTIN) CHEATON

Geraldine Cheaton Aug. 9, 1932 - May 17, 2015 SOUTH BEND - Surrounded by her loving family, Mother Geraldine A. Cheaton was chosen by the Lord to rest eternally in His presence May 17, 2015. Geraldine, born August 9, 1932, was the oldest of 9 children born to Vernator (Vernon) & Samuel Austin Sr.

After graduating from Washington High School, she married Earl Roosevelt Cheaton. To that union six children were born. Her husband, Earl, preceded her in death April of 1984.

Geraldine lived her life in service to others. She was instrumental in the upbringing of each of her siblings; but that kindness wasn't only extended to her family. She cared for everyone. As a young adult, she enrolled in and eventually graduated from the Memorial School of Nursing as a certified nursing assistant (CNA). While working there, she took a specialized position as a QMRP at St. Joseph's Hospital. She retired after many years of successful employment at both positions. Most importantly, Geraldine loved the Lord. Her life mirrored scripture passages and she lived in the blessings of Abraham; she received the promises of the spirit because of her faith.

Geraldine is survived by her children: Debra Bell (South Bend, IN), Carol Marie Coleman (Ypsilanti, MI), Earl Eugene Cheaton (South Bend, IN), Timothy Paul Cheaton (South Bend, IN), Theresa Renee McDaniel (South Bend, IN), Stephen Joseph (Beverly) Cheaton; and a special daughter-in-law, Jacqueline Cheaton (South Bend). 19 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren will also cherish her memory. Two grandchildren, Tiffany Cheaton & David Solomon Bell, preceded her in death. Also surviving are her siblings: Betty Berry (South Bend, IN), Geno Austin (Elkins, West Virginia), Elder William (Pastor Janathan Abney) Austin (Grand Rapids, MI), Debra (Richard) Jennings (South Bend, IN), and brothers by love, Percy Jones & Carl (Marilyn) Taylor (both of South Bend, IN), as well as a host of nieces and nephews.

Siblings in Heaven ecstatic to greet her are: Estella (Austin) Burrell, Samuel & Clara Austin, Jr., Barbara (Austin) Jones & Vernator (Austin) Taylor.

Pentecostal Cathedral Church of God in Christ will host the visitation and services Saturday, May 23, 2015. Visitation will begin at 10 AM with services to follow immediately at 11. Pentecostal is located at 1025 W. Western Ave., South Bend, IN 46601. Arrangements have been handled by Alford's Mortuary. He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most high shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the Lord, He is my refuge and my fortress: My God; in Him will I trust. Psalms 91:1-2
