Dr. Dianne E. Greaves, 76 years old, passed away at 5:40 p.m. on Thursday, February 16, 2023 at Memorial Hospital, South Bend.  Dianne was born on August 27, 1946 in Bronx, NY to the late Luther and Frances (LeCour) Peck.  Her step-mother, Claire Peck, who helped raise her after the untimely death of her mother, also preceded her in death; along with her son-in-law, Terry D. Dillon.

Dianne is survived by her three children, Josh T.W. Stryde of Bloomington, IN, Cassie F. Dillon of Taylor, MI, and Jessa D.D. (Timothy Kohler) Greaves of South Bend; five grandchildren, Jamal Davis, Jen Wylde-Stryde, Frances Dillon, Isaac Kohler, and Isabella Kohler; two sisters, Carole Dunn of Florida and Debbie Santo of New York; and two brothers, Roger Peck of Illinois and Lewis Schlick of New York.

Dr. Greaves began her career as an educator in the 1970’s in Bloomington, IN working in the Special Education department. She started programs throughout her career to better serve students with special needs and continued that work in South Bend pushing for better educational opportunities for all students in the district.

Dr. Greaves believed in making sure all students received a quality education. In 1990, she transitioned into education administration for the South Bend Community School Corporation to help facilitate that the needs of all students were being met. She wanted to serve the community to the best of her ability. She was formerly the Assistant Principal at Washington High School, Principal at LaSalle High School, Director of Special Education for the entire district, Assistant Superintendent for high schools, special education and restructuring, and retired in June of 2007 as the Assistant Superintendent for South Bend Community School Corporation.

As a mother, Dianne showed her children unconditional love. She taught them strength, independence and how to love others even in the face of adversity. She loved being a grandmother and her grandchildren brought her immense joy, love and pride. Her presence on the earth was shorter than we wanted but she will never be forgotten. She was a true force of nature, and her impact will last for a very long time. She will be forever missed.
