SOUTH BEND - Mrs. Etta Faye (Hall) Carter, 79, formerly Walker, of Lisle, IL, formerly from Milwaukee, WI, passed away on June 11th. Etta was born to Lillian and William Hall on October 20, 1928, in South Bend, Indiana. Etta attended Washington High School in South Bend. She married Virdo Walker and had six children.

She worked as an LPN at Memorial Hospital in South Bend, IN, and Columbia Hospital in Milwaukee, WI. She was a faithful follower of Christ. In 1977 she moved to Milwaukee, Wisconsin. While making a new life there she met and married Sylvester Carter in 1981.

Preceding her death three of her children went home to be with the Lord: Marietta (1952), Virdo "Sonny" Jr. (1990) and Arnold (Emilie) in 2006; parents, Lillian and Emmanuel Hall; and siblings, Marie (Elton) Gailday, James (Catherine) Hall, Alice (Edison) Rogers, Leroy Hall and Clarence Hall.

Mrs. Etta Faye Carter departed from this life at 8:23 p.m. on Wednesday, June 11, 2008, in the home of her granddaughter, Autumn Geist-Lombardo, while in hospice care.

She leaves to mourn her memory her husband, Sylvester "Vince" Carter; three siblings, Emmanuel (Janie) Hall and Edna Kinsey of Kansas City, MO, Marlene Freeman and Delores (Ulues) Parker of South Bend, IN; and three children, Valeria Robinson of River Forest, Illinois, Doris (Jerry) Szejna of Racine, Wisconsin, and Terry (Linda) Walker of Milwaukee, Wisconsin; 11 grandchildren, Sonya Robinson, Autumn (Vince) Geist-Lombardo, Donshae (Amanda) Geist, Annette (Jonathan) Gary, Jerry Walker, Antar (Elethia) Robinson, Jeffrey (Melissa) Szejna, Serina Geist, Naomi Walker, Randy Szejna and Terry Walker Jr.; 13 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and longtime friends.

Etta always opened her home to others. She had a generosity for listening and offering advice. Etta was beloved and will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
