WARDELL JENKINS
June 23, 1935 - Nov. 3, 2012
SOUTH BEND - Mr. Wardell Jenkins, age 77, of South Bend, Indiana, passed away at 5:56 p.m. on Saturday, November 3, 2012, at Memorial Hospital, South Bend, IN. Wardell was born to the union of Edward and Z.D. (Sutton) Jenkins on June 23, 1935, in South Bend, IN.
He was a longtime resident of South Bend and a graduate of Washington High School.
He was employed by the City of South Bend for thirty years. He was an avid fisherman and hunter, but his greatest asset was talking to everyone he knew and some he did not know. He also was an avid Chicago Cubs & Notre Dame fan. Wardell was a loving husband and father whose goal was providing for his family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Z.D. Jenkins; 2 brothers, Lawrence and Carl Edward Jenkins; and a sister, Shirline Jenkins.
Wardell leaves behind to cherish his memories his wife of 57 years, Mary Jenkins; his children, Ronald Jenkins of South Bend, Sharon (Richard) Blackmon of Chicago, Illinois, Darryl (Marci) Jenkins of Grand Rapids, Michigan, and Cynthia (Warren) Williams of Conyers, Gerogia; two brothers, Harold (Doris) Jenkins of Indianapolis, Indiana, and Kennis Jenkins of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina; two sisters, Wilma Jean Taylor of Pasadena, California, and Jawel (Albert) Lemon of Forney, Texas; 13 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren; along with a host of other family and friends.
Funeral services for Mr. Wardell Jenkins will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 10, 2012, at Bethlehem Missionary Baptist Church, with viewing held at the church from 11:00 a.m. to noon.
