ROY E. BRUCE

March 1, 1949 - June 9, 2011
SOUTH BEND - Mr. Roy Edward Bruce, 62, beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, son and brother, who resided on North Meade Street, South Bend, Indiana, passed away at 2:30 a.m. on Thursday, June 9, 2011, at his residence. Roy was born March 1, 1949, in Little Rock, Arkansas, to Jeff Bruce and Alma Evans.

He attended Central High School and graduated from Washington High School in 1967.

He was united in holy matrimony to Donna Card on April 2, 1977, in South Bend, Indiana. He worked construction for the South Bend Street Department over 30 years, retiring in 1996. His passion was his family and friends. He also loved to barbecue, lay in the yard, and watch TV.

Survivors left to cherish his memory include four daughters, Samantha (James) Marsh and Zhenay Newhouse, both of South Bend, Gena Lockamy of Buchanan, MI, and Babette (Robert) Zielinski of South Bend; two sons, Jon (Brianna) Fillmore of Johnsonville, New York, and Leroy Newhouse of South Bend; three special grandchildren of 11, Jaelin Marsh, Carle Sidney and Ki Newhouse; two great-grandchildren; three sisters, Beverly White of South Bend, Teresa Johnson and Angie Bruce, both of Wichita, KS; three best friends, Louis Phillips, Fred Harris and Thomas McFerron; along with a host of other relative and friends.

Memorial services for Mr. Roy Edward Bruce will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, June 24, 2011, at Alford's Mortuary. Arrangements have been entrusted to Alford's Mortuary where messages of condolence may be e-mailed to Alfordsmortuary@comcast.net, c/o the Bruce family.
