SOUTH BEND - Bruce Black Jr. of Hope, Arkansas, passed away peacefully at home on Friday, January 20, 2012, in South Bend, IN. Bruce was born on August 27, 1940, to Bruce Black Sr. and Gertrude Scroggins in Hope, Arkansas. Bruce moved to South Bend in 1950.

He graduated from Washington High School, worked at Clarks Equipment for 25 years, and was also employed by Gibson & Lewis Construction for 12 years where he retired.

Bruce loved to cook and spend time with his family. He was a lifetime Chicago Bears fan. He enjoyed watching the Cubs and Bulls play on television with his family. He was a supportive husband, father, uncle and friend. He treated everyone as though they were family, and you never saw him without a smile. He will be missed dearly by all who loved and knew him.

Bruce leaves to cherish his many fond and loving memories his significant other, Patricia Coleman; four sons, Bruce (Renee) Black Jr. of Kalamazoo, MI, Cecil Black Sr. of South Bend, IN, Antonio (Crystal) Wilson Sr. of South Bend, IN, & Darwin Black of South Bend, IN; two daughters, Lucy (Larry) Smith of Augusta, GA, and MaryJo Harvels of South Bend, IN; special niece, whom he raised, Katrina (Darrick) Lee of South Bend, IN; six stepchildren, Troy Scott of South Bend, IN, Tamara (Ozzie) Jackson of Madison, WI, Trina Jackson of South Bend, IN, Dorlyn Lenoir of South Bend, IN, Todd Lenoir of Gallop, NM, Twila Newbill of South Bend, IN, Terrence Coleman of South Bend, IN, and Tarena Daniels of Kansas City, KS; a host of grandchildren; two sisters, Hazel Witherspoon of South Bend, IN, and Dorothy William of Benton Harbor, MI; along with a host of other relatives and friends.

Along with his parents, Bruce Black Sr. and Gertrude Scroggins, and stepmother, Mary Black, Bruce was preceded in death by his brother, Charles Black, his sister, Doris Neely, nephew Steve Witherspoon, and godbrother, William "Buddy" Riley.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, January 28, 2012, at Faith Apostolic Ministries, with burial following at Highland Cemetery. Viewing will take place one hour prior at the church. Arrangements have been entrusted to Alford's Mortuary where messages of condolence may be emailed to Alfordsmortuary@att.net, c/o the Black family.
