JAMES A. BERTA

James A. Berta April 3, 1933 - July 14, 2015 SOUTH BEND - James "Jim" A. Berta, 82, passed away Tuesday, July 14, 2015, in Memorial Hospital. Jim was born April 3, 1933, in South Bend, to the late Joseph and Mary (Hainer) Berta, and was a lifelong area resident.

On June 11, 1955, Jim married his loving wife, Rita (Garstecki) Berta, who survives along with a son, Randall (Valorie) Berta, and daughter, Karen Greenwell, all of South Bend; grandchildren, Erin Casadio, Jessica Berta, Jonathan (Agata) Berta of South Carolina, Sarah Brockie, Heather Kosackney of South Bend; six great-grandchildren, Rome Jr., Elizabeth, Madison, Nicole, Armani and Malaki; also David (Katie) Berta, 3 children, Aiden, Wyatt and Chloe.

Jim honorably served his country in the United States Navy. He retired in 1988 from the Uniroyal Corporation after 35 years.

Jim was a graduate of Washington High School, class of 1952. He was a parishioner of St. John the Baptist Church. Jim was a member of the St. John's Ushers and Coin Clubs, Post #50 American Legion, and the William Penn Club.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:00 am on Friday, July 17, 2015, in St. John the Baptist Catholic Church. Entombment will follow at St Joseph Cemetery. ST. JOSEPH FUNERAL HOME, 824 S. Mayflower Rd., is assisting the family. Memorial contributions may be made to the St. John the Baptist Church, 3526 St. Johns Way, South Bend, Indiana 46628.
