EVELYN C. (SANDERS) BAUGH

Evelyn Christine Baugh Oct. 22, 1931 - Nov. 10, 2015 SOUTH BEND - Evelyn Christine Baugh, 84, of South Bend, IN, peacefully passed at 2:45 AM Tuesday, November 10th, 2015, at Peggy Coloney's House (Center of Hope Hospice) in Scotch Plains, New Jersey. Mrs. Baugh was a beloved mother to Atha; loving grandmother to Karen, Zachary and Kaylin; and dear great-grandmother to Iyanna and Aniya. She also had many loved nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was born on October 22nd, 1931, in South Bend, Indiana, to the late Arthur and Emma Sanders, and was raised by her parents ("on the lake") with her siblings: Agnes (Stephens), Joseph, Mildred (Currie), John Clifford and Arthur Emerson Jr. Evelyn was the last living sibling.

She attended Harrison Elementary School and graduated from Washington High School in 1950. After graduation she attended Indiana University briefly before transferring to Fisk University in Nashville, Tennessee. This "Fisk Lady" graduated in 1957 with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Religion.

In addition to living in the southern United States while attending college, she later lived on both coasts (Washington D.C., Philadelphia and Los Angeles) before ultimately settling back in South Bend with Atha. Her greatest pride always center on her "children" which in addition to her son, grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the 2nd grade students she taught in her 27 years with the South Bend Community School Corporation.

Family and friends are invited to a memorial service to celebrate Evelyn's Homecoming beginning at 11:00 AM Saturday, November 21st, 2015, at Epworth Memorial United Methodist Church, 2404 Lincoln Way West, South Bend, Indiana 46628. In lieu of flowers, the family request that contributions in the memory of Evelyn Christine Baugh be made to the American Cancer Society, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Eta Mu Omega Scholarship, or to the Pilgrim Baptist Church Scholarship Fund.
