JOANN M. (HARTWICK) BASS

Aug. 1, 1940 - Jan. 30, 2014 SOUTH BEND - JoAnn Marie (Pierce) Bass, 73, formerly of South Bend, IN, passed away on Thursday, January 30th, 2014, at her home in Jackson, MS. She was born on August 1st, 1940, to the late Sylvester and Rose Marie (Pinter) Hartwick.

JoAnn was a 1958 graduate of Washington High School.

She loved life and everything it entailed. Not only was she a caring, thoughtful, kindhearted, and hardworking woman, she was also a spitfire. One of her greatest pleasures in life was spending time with her family on Dauphin Island, AL, and in Pensacola, FL. She was passionate about all animals, but quite partial to her "four-legged children" Lucy and Cheyenne.

She is survived by her husband of 33 years, Wayne Bass of Jackson, MS; her daughters, Kim Pierce and Sandra Scott; and former husband, Gene Pierce. She is also survived by her brother, Dennis Jaskowiak; grandchildren, Melissa (Larry) Kennebrew, Larry Pierce, Justin Arndt, Stephanie Scott and Lacey Evans; great-granddaughters, Alanna Marie Evans and Zoe Jo Kennebrew; and close friends, Buck and Aubrey (Debbie) Pridgen.

She was preceded in death by her stepfather, Don Jaskowiak, and her daughter, Kathleen Pierce in 1992.

Formal services will not be held, per JoAnn's request, but memorial contributions may be made in her honor to the American Cancer Association or to your local animal shelter.
