Rudy Baloun, 79, of South Bend, IN, passed away on August 23, 2006 in his home. He was born on November 6, 1926 to the late Otto and Justine (Prikosovich) Baloun in South Bend, IN, and was a lifelong resident.

Rudy was a 1944 graduate of Washington High School, where he was a member of the football team which won back to back State Championships in 1943 and 1944.

Mr. Baloun retired on December 31, 1987 from NIPSCO, after 36 years of employment.

On September 30, 1950, he married Dorothy L. Wcisel at St. Hedwig Catholic Church in South Bend, IN. Dorothy died on July 28, 2004.

He is survived by his son, David (wife Laura) Baloun of Canton, OH; two grandchildren, Lindsay Baloun of Chicago, IL; Drew Baloun of Canton, OH; two brothers, William (wife Lillian) Baloun of South Bend, IN; and Norman (wife Connie) Baloun of South Bend, IN.

Mr. Baloun was a member of Sacred Heart Parish at Notre Dame, and has attended St. Joseph Chapel at Holy Cross College since 2002. He was a charter member of the St. Joseph County Home Builders Association; and an Army Veteran of World War II. Rudy was also an avid Notre Dame fan.

Visitation will be from 12-2pm Saturday, August 26, 2006 at Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive, South Bend, IN. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 2:30pm Saturday, August 26, 2006 in St. Joseph Chapel at Holy Cross College, Notre Dame, IN, with Rev. Joseph Carey, C.S.C. officiating. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park, Granger, IN.
