Gloria Jean Bruce (Dockery Mincey) - Class Of 1973 VIEW PROFILE

Gloria Jean Dockery, affectionately known as “mom, mama Gloria, Granny and Granny Cakes,” 66, of South Bend, passed away Friday, September 23, 2022 at Saint Joseph Health System following an extended illness.  She was born on October 10, 1955 in Memphis, TN to Emma Lee Bruce who preceded her in death.  Gloria moved to South Bend at a young age.  She attended Washington High School and went on to obtain credentials as a Certified Nursing Assistant.

She was a gentle soul with a heart of gold!  She loved to laugh, dance, listen to music, watch westerns and bring family together through cooking.  She was an amazing wife, mother, sister, aunt, grandmother, neighbor, co-worker and friend.  Nothing made her happier than to put a smile on someone else’s face.  People may forget something she said, but they will never forget how she made them feel…special, respected, cared for, loved, empowered, embraced, and wonderfully made, flaws and all.  Gloria never met a stranger because her kindness and generosity was so powerful those strangers soon became friends and felt like family.

Gloria leaves to cherish her memory a loving husband, James Mincey Sr.; three daughters, Ardelia Mincey and her children, Corey, DeJanae & Deasia; Emma Dockery and her children, Dion (Diamond) Harris, Jada & James; Deanna (Curtis) Jackson, and her children, Madison, Maegan & Zhari;  three sons, Dwayne Dockery and his children, Da’Qwan, Juwan, John and Dakota;  James Mincey, Jr. and his children, Aaliyah & Alexis; Jason (Toccara) Dockery and his children, Jason ‘JJ’, Cortez, Trenton, Devon, Jason & Jackson, all of South Bend, IN; three sisters, Annie Dockery (Ricky) of Memphis, TN, Linda (Kenny) Nelson of South Bend, IN, & Margaret Hamlin of Dallas, TX; brother, Sylvester Dockery, of South Bend, IN; seven great grandchildren and copious nieces & nephews.  Five siblings who proceeded her in death; Lonnie Dockery, Mary Dockery, Betty Dockery Bell, Alice Dockery Scruggs, & Joseph Dockery and two grandchildren, Joseph Lee Burton and Dwayne Dockery Jr.

Gloria will always be remembered in the hearts of those who loved her and the lives she impacted.
