SOUTH BEND - Nicholas A. Tekler, 83, of South Bend, passed away on June 20, 2011, of natural causes. Nick was born in South Bend on Dec. 5th, 1927, to Mr. and Mrs. Michael and Barbara Tekler.

He married Annie Voynovich on Feb. 2, 1963, and celebrated 48 years of marriage. They have two children, Nicholas J. and (Julie) Tekler Jr., and daughter, Dawn S. Tekler, and husband (Scott Horvath). Nick Jr. resides in South Bend where he is Battalion Chief of the South Bend Fire Dept. Dawn resides in Cleveland, Ohio, where she works as an artist and in advertising. Siblings are sister, Barbara Wincek, South Bend, John (Vivian) Tekler in Colorado and Bill (Debbie) Konter South Bend. Nick is also survived by three grandchildren, Rodney, Stephen and Jared, as well as many loving nieces and nephews.

He was a graduate of Washington H.S. where he played football and baseball.

Nick was a veteran of the United States Navy and was stationed in Norfolk, Virginia, aboard the USS Kleinsmith.

He worked in sales for The Ridge Company and Camden's Appliances from which he later retired in 2009. He was an exceptional golfer, and also enjoyed bowling and an occasional card game. Nick was a stoic and loving father who enjoyed traveling with his wife and children. We will miss his humor and guidance greatly.

Visitation will be held in Zahoran Funeral Home, 1826 Kemble Avenue, today, June 22nd, from 4 p.m. - 8 p.m. Service will also be held in the Zahoran Funeral Home on Thursday, June 23rd, at 11 a.m. and burial will be at Highland Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to The Center for Hospice and Palliative Care or to the charity of the donor's choice.
