Maureen Boake Obituary

Dear Family and Friends,

We are saddened to share the passing of Maureen Boake.

Maureen Boake
March 9, 1956 – May 5, 2026

Maureen Boake, 70, of Walkerton, passed away after a brief illness at Memorial Hospital in South Bend on Tuesday, May 5th.

Maureen was born in South Bend on March 9, 1956. She graduated from South Bend's Washington High School as part of the Class of '74. On May 15, 1976, she married the love of her life, Brian Boake Sr.. Besides becoming a loving mother, she went on to help her husband run the family businesses throughout the years.

Maureen loved animals and it showed throughout her life. She became a dedicated leader with 4-H, spending over 20 years helping with animals and cultivating those same values in the next generation. She also volunteered at the Pet Refuge of South Bend and other local organizations. She loved raising animals, rescuing and rehabilitating wildlife, and donating to needy families, children, and pet organizations.

Maureen enjoyed fishing, vacationing with her family, boating in New Buffalo, Michigan where she and her family spent many summers, attending Notre Dame football games, gardening, decorating her home, listening to music, dancing, watching sunrises and sunsets in Florida. She was also a foreign exchange student host and took great joy in helping others experience love and support through her home and family. Maureen also took great pleasure in organizing and bringing her classmates together for their class reunions.

Maureen was deeply involved in her children's lives and activities and rarely missed an opportunity to encourage and support them. Her greatest joy, however, was helping care for her grandchildren, Caroline, Wyatt, and Emmett. Maureen also had a way of making her children's friends feel like part of the Boake family, welcoming them with warmth, love, and kindness.

Maureen was known for her kind and uplifting spirit. She was always eager to make others smile — not only strangers, but especially her family and friends whom she loved very much and who loved her dearly in return. No matter the kind of day someone was having, Maureen had a way of lifting their spirits. She saw the state of the world and wanted to make a positive difference in meaningful ways throughout her life.

Maureen is survived by her loving husband of 50 years, Brian Boake Sr. of Walkerton; her children, Amy Boake of Walkerton and Brian Boake of Walkerton; her cherished grandchildren, Caroline, Wyatt, and Emmett; and her siblings, Louann Becker-Pruett of South Bend and Mike Clardy of North Carolina.

As per Maureen's wishes, cremation is to take place. A memorial service celebrating her life will be held at a later date. Hanley and Sons Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

In lieu of floral arrangements, donations may be made in Maureen Boake's name to Pet Refuge of South Bend, Indiana.

With love and remembrance,
The Boake Family
