Robin Lou Townsend, 52, passed away on Tuesday, October 26, 2010, in Hospice House. She was born on November 9, 1957, in South Bend, to the union of Betty J. (Northern) and Clarence B. Townsend Sr.

She leaves to cherish her memory a special niece, Ashley Carter. Other survivors include her father, Clarence B. Townsend Sr. of Baltimore, Maryland; one sister, Allison L. Townsend, and one brother, Clarence B. Townsend Jr., both of South Bend, Indiana. Other family members include three nieces, Sherry R. Samuels of Atlanta, Georgia, Autumn L. Vann and Alexis M. Jones of South Bend. She also had four nephews, Owen C. Samuels Jr., Dwayne J. Robinson, Christopher D. Vann and Shaquille A. Vann, all of South Bend.

Robin was preceded in death by her mother, Betty J. Townsend; one brother, Samuel L. Townsend; a sister, Madelyn L. Samuels; maternal grandparents, Samuel and Versie Northern; and paternal grandparents, Isom and Laura (Staples) Townsend.

Robin was a graduate of Washington H.S. During high school she participated in band and was inducted into the National Honor Society. Robin was also an Alpha Kappa Alpha Debutante for Eta Mu Omega Chapter.

Robin enjoyed baking and was always making her family and friends treats. Robin had an associate degree in accounting and a secretarial science degree from Ivy-Tech State College. Robin was employed by Notre Dame Federal Credit Union as well as Comfort Suites as a night auditor and accountant. Robin lived in Miami, Florida, for several years. She returned to South Bend to care for her ailing mother. Robin had a very giving and charitable heart. She regularly gave donations to Feed the Children. She enjoyed special outings to the library with her surrogate daughter, Ashley. Robin attended interfaith Christian Union under the leadership of Rev. Sylvester Williams Jr. until her illness. Her desire was to make a donation to the "radio station," as she called it, prior to her death. She never got the chance to do so. The family asks that, in lieu of flowers, contributions be made to the WUBS 89.7 FM partnership, 702 LWW, South Bend, 46616; or to WUBS.org (donate) in honor of Robin L. Townsend.

Services for Robin Lou Townsend will be held on Wednesday, November 3, 2010, in the Clark-O'Neal Funeral Home, 2702 Lincoln Way West, South Bend. Visitation will begin at 11 a.m. and then funeral services at noon. Burial will follow funeral services at Highland Cemetery.
