Michael Joseph Nemes, 69 years old, passed away unexpectedly at home at 2:56 p.m. on Friday, August 7, 2026 at his home. His loving wife, Kathleen, was by his side. Mike was born on February 01, 1957 in South Bend to the late Richard J. and Josephine H. (Chraplewy) Nemes. He has remained a lifelong resident of South Bend. On December 24, 1999 in South Bend, Mike and Kathleen (Csenar) Raker were united in marriage.
Along with Kathleen, his loving wife of 26 years, Mike is survived by his daughter, Sara Nielson of South Bend; son, Timothy Nemes of South Bend; step-daughter, Laura (Craig) Raker-Cihak of New Carlisle; step-sons, Robert (Lynn) Raker II of South Bend and Bradley (Jodie) Raker of Clearwater, FL; the mother of his children, Robin Nemes of Mishawaka. He is also survived by 16 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.
Mike was a 1975 graduate of Washington High School and retired from the St. Joseph County Police Department in 2010 after 28 years of employment.
After his retirement, Mike enjoyed spending the winter camping in Florida with his wife Kathleen and their dog Ollie. He also enjoyed cooking, grilling, and fishing whenever he could.
Private services will be held with a private burial at Southlawn Cemetery. Palmer Funeral Home-Guisinger Chapel is assisting the family. In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Michael J.
