SOUTH BEND — Our beloved son, brother and husband, Garrett Witkowski, passed away in his residence on August 4, 2008, in Chicago, Illinois. Garrett grew up in South Bend and attended Holy Family School and Washington High School. Garrett pursued his love for art by earning his BSA in art studies at Kansas City Art Institute, and a master’s degree from Boston Graduate University.Garrett met his first wife, Nancy Marabella, while in Boston, and they returned to South Bend to work in the family business.
In 1976 Garrett secured a job as a professor teaching art at Columbus College of Art and Design in Columbus, Ohio.Garrett departed academia, moved to Chicago, and accepted a position with an art design company to create and enrich his artistic talents.
Garrett was preceded in death by his mother, Mary Lou (Buysse) Witkowski.
Garrett is survived by his current wife, Beryl Schottenstein. Also surviving are his father, Kenneth Witkowski; sisters, Cheryl (Gregory) Willoughby and Sandra Witkowski; and brothers, Kenneth (Holly) Witkowski and Lee Witkowski; along with many nieces and nephews.
Garrett, the accomplished artist and musician, will be missed by his family, friends and co-workers.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association. A private service for the family was held on August 9, 2008, in Chicago, IL
