Carol Joy (Long) Andrews

Oct. 22, 1938 - Nov. 6, 2013 SOUTH BEND - Carol Joy Long was born on October 22, 1938, to parents, Howard E. Long Sr. and Jeanette M. (Knudson) Long. She had one brother, Howard E. "Red" Long Jr. (Rosemarie) of Syracuse, IN, who preceded her in death.

Carol attended Washington High School of South Bend.

Carol is survived by her loving husband, William R. Andrews Sr., son of George A. and Helen Andrews, formerly of South bend. Carol and Bill celebrated their 57th wedding anniversary this past Sunday, November 3rd. Also surviving are four children, Vicki Grauel (Gary) of South Bend, Donna Cooper (Edward) of Central Point, OR, William R. Andrews Jr. (Debra, deceased 2005) of Niles, MI, and Robert Andrews (Lynne) of Chicago, IL. There are 11 grandchildren, Jeremy Grenert, Petaluma, CA, Todd Grauel, Rosemount, MN, Christopher Cooper, Central Point, OR, Carolyn Anderson, Bozeman, MT, Amy Andrews, South Bend, IN, Katie and Jason Andrews of Niles, MI, and Jacob, David, Benjamin and Samuel Andrews of Chicago, IL. Also surviving are 11 great-grandchildren, Livvy and Bella Grenert, Liam, Seth and Cullen Grauel, Ethan and Heidi Cooper, Adelyn, Wyatt and Ava Anderson and Elyn Atwood. Family was always first and foremost for Carol.

She was a full-time homemaker for all of her life, raising 4 children and playing an active role in the lives of her grandchildren. She was also an animal lover and often had a dog or a cat and sometimes stray kittens join the family. One of her "grand dogs" used to escape from his home to run a couple of miles to visit Grandma's house on a regular basis. Carol also worked outside the home at Robertson's Department Store, L.S. Ayres at Scottsdale Mall, 1st Source Bank and at the University of Notre Dame Registrar's Office. Carol and Bill were active members of American Turners of South Bend until they moved to Gravel Lake in Lawton, MI, in 1987. During their retirement years they were able to visit 49 of the 50 United States of America by taking several cross-country trips with their fifth wheel trailer, in addition to cruises to Hawaii and Alaska. They returned home to the Michiana area in 1998 and still traveled on occasion to family weddings in the mountain and western states. Carol is deeply loved and will be deeply missed. We all thank God for the beautiful life of Carol Joy.

Family and friends may call on Saturday, November 9, 2013, from 12:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. at the Bubb Funeral Chapel, 3910 N. Main Street, Mishawaka, where funeral services will also be on Saturday at 2:00 p.m. Her son, Rev. Robert Andrews, will officiate the funeral services with her final resting place to be at St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park in Granger. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Harbor Light Hospice, 1608 Day Road, Mishawaka, Indiana 46545.
