Stephen E. Horvath

November 26, 1968   ~   April 29, 2025

Stephen Eugene “Gene” Horvath, 56, passed away on April 29, 2025, in South Bend, Indiana after a long battle with cancer and vascular disease.

Born on November 26, 1968, in San Bernardino, California, Steve was the son of Patricia Huston and the late Stephen John Horvath, Jr.  He grew up with a strong work ethic and a generous spirit that would define his life.  As a graduate of Washington High School, Steve went on to build a career as a journeyman roofer before later working as a press operator at Armor Group. 

Steve was known for his willingness to lend a hand whenever it was needed.  Whether helping family or friends, he gave freely of his time and energy.  His love for the outdoors was evident in how he spent his free time; working outside brought him joy and peace.  He also had a passion for NASCAR and enjoyed following the sport closely. 

Steve is survived by his devoted and loving wife, Denise Horvath, a stepson Caleb (Hannah) Johnson, by his mother Patricia Huston, his sister Carol (Jim) Senour, along with his nieces Ashley (Brad) Sherman, Stephanie (Drew) Moore, and Melanie (Shawn) Houser, his great-nephews, Carson, Gavin, Jaxson, Colson, and his great-nieces Adelyn and Evelyn. 

Steve was preceded in death by his father, Stephen John Horvath, Jr. and his father-in-law, Fred R. Szuch. 

A celebration of Steve’s life will be held at a later date. 

May Steve’s memory bring comfort to those who knew him and serve as a reminder of the quiet strength found in generosity and hard work.
