Rita Arndt (Seifert)

Rita T. (Arndt) Seifert

Rita T. Seifert, 88, of South Bend, IN, passed away Wednesday morning, November 23, 2016 in the ICU unit of Memorial Hospital after a brief illness. She was born on November 1, 1928 to John J. and Frances (Stachowiak) Arndt in South Bend IN. On June 12, 1948 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, she was united in marriage to Daniel M. Seifert. Dan and Rita celebrated 32 years together before his death on October 5, 1980.

Also preceding her in death are her parents; sisters, Alfrieda, Dolores and Doris; along with a son, Danny (1967); and granddaughter, Brianna Rose Seifert.

Rita is survived by a sister, Mary Jane (John) Porogi of South Bend, IN; her children, Susan A. (Earl) Jensen of Lakeville, IN, Thomas T. (Susan) Seifert and David A. (Tammy) Seifert both of South Bend, IN; grandchildren, Danielle Jensen, Claire Jensen, Nathan Seifert, Bryan Seifert, and Martin Seifert; great grandchildren, Megan Masterson, Devin Masterson, Rita Masterson, Haley Seifert, Shelby Seifert, KaLynn Holtzapple, Riley Seifert, Makayla Seifert, Kimberly Seifert, Alyssa and Zachary; and great-great grandchildren, Hailey, Natasha, Natalie, Desmond, Hudson, Gracie and Ava.

Rita was a devoted wife and loving mother. She was strong in her Catholic faith. She loved her babies and enjoyed spending time with family and friends, working in her flower beds, bowling, playing euchre with her sisters, fuzzy navels, watching “The Price is Right” & “Judge Judy”, doing the daily word JUMBLE in the So. Bend Tribune, and she never met a piece of chocolate she didn’t like. Rita was a “great” cook; famous for her mashed potatoes and potato salad. The secret she would say are in the “onions”. Our dad said, “your mother would put onions in ice cream” if I let her. No one ever left her table hungry.

Cremation has taken place. Memorial services will be held at 2:00 pm Thursday, December 8, 2016 in the Palmer Funeral Home – Hickey Chapel, 17131 Cleveland Rd, South Bend, IN. Friends may visit with the family from 12:00 noon until service time on Thursday in the funeral home.
