Alice M. Szumski, 95, of South Bend, Indiana passed away on June 8, 2023. She was born on May 9, 1928 in South Bend.

On October 14, 1950, as Alice Trzaskowski, she married Eugene Szumski. Gene passed away in 2004.

Survivors include three children; Deborah (Craig) Foy of Granger, David (Anne) Szumski of South Bend and Michael (Mary-Beth Nickel) Szumski of Siletz, OR, eight grandchildren; Brian Foy, Ashley (Jim) Packee, Michael (Kelly) Foy, Jennifer (Chad Yencer) Szumski, Joshua (Shilpa) Szumski, Alicia (Jon) Bolen, Matthew Szumski and Monica (Joshua) Reeves. Alice is also survived by eleven great-grandchildren and her sister Carole Moore of Elkhart, IN.

She retired in 1993 from Sears Roebuck after 22 years of service. Alice was a former Eucharistic Minister, a member of Harvest House, Bethany Ladies Hoosier grandmothers and the St. Vincent de Paul Society. Alice and her husband, Gene, were honored with the "Top Hat" award by the St. Vincent de Paul Society for their volunteer service to the community.

A Rosary for Alice will be prayed at 2:45 p.m. with visitation to follow from 3 to 7 p.m. Tuesday June 13, 2023 at the Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Dr., South Bend. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday June 14, 2023 at Holy Cross Catholic Church, 1050 Wilber St., South Bend, where friends may visit for one hour prior to the Mass. Burial will conclude in Riverview Cemetery, South Bend.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Vincent de Paul, 520 Crescent Ave., South Bend, IN 46617. Alice's family would like to thank Jen, Barb,Taylor and Chaplain Mark of Heart to Heart Hospice for the love and care that they gave to Alice.
