THERESA F. (ORLOWSKI) VARGO

SOUTH BEND - Theresa F. Vargo, 82, of West Ford Street, passed away at 3:10 p.m. on December 5, 2010, in Your Home Assisted Living, South Bend. Theresa was born on October 12, 1928, in South Bend, to the late Frank and Frances (Stanczak) Orlowski. She was also preceded in death by five sisters, Alice Lewis, Stella Gorski, Ruth Facey, Evelyn Zarembka and Mary Jane Swinehart. Theresa had lived in South Bend all her life.
She graduated from St. Adalbert Grade School and Washington High School. She was a member of the Washington High School Booster Club.
On May 8, 1948, she married John W. Vargo, who preceded her in death on October 5, 2002. They were married for 54 years. Theresa is survived by two daughters, Shirley (Edward) Buras of South Bend and Marcia Vargo of North Liberty; and by her son, Patrick (Tammy) Vargo of Round Lake Beach, IL; three granddaughters, Chris, Jennifer and Cheryl Buras; one grandson, Connor Vargo; and three great-granddaughters, Kayla Buras, Kaitlyn and Kelsey Davis.
Theresa was a devoted wife and mother who is now at peace with the Lord. May God rest her soul. Theresa loved playing poker with family and friends. She enjoyed bingo, listening to music, reading, and lottery tickets. She also enjoyed watching football, particularly during bowl season.
Visitation will be from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Thursday, December 9, 2010, in ST. JOSEPH FUNERAL HOME, 824 S. Mayflower Road, where a Rosary will be prayed at 4 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Friday, December 10, 2010, in Holy Family Catholic Church. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Center for Hospice and Palliative Care, 111 Sunnybrook Court, South Bend, IN 46637. The family would like to thank the faculty and staff at Hospice House, Sunnybrook Court, and Your Home Assisted Living for all the care given to Mom.
