Deborah Ann Zmyslo
March 23, 1954 ~ November 7, 2025
Deborah Ann Zmyslo, of South Bend, passed away on November 7, 2025, at the age of 71. She was born on March 23, 1954, in South Bend, Indiana, to the late Bernard and Betty (Kiryan) Zmyslo.
Deborah was a proud graduate of Washington High School in South Bend. She earned her nursing degree from Holy Cross School of Nursing in 1975 and went on to complete her Master of Science in Administration from the University of Notre Dame in 1996. Her education laid the foundation for a distinguished and compassionate career in healthcare.
She served as Clinical Director of the Progressive Cardiac Care Unit at Saint Joseph Hospital for 20 years, where her leadership and dedication touched countless lives. Deborah also worked at the Saint Joseph County Health Department, the Saint Joseph County Jail, and later as a registered nurse at Memorial Hospital where she continued her service always committed to caring for others with dignity and grace.
Deborah’s love for life extended far beyond her professional achievements. She was active in Bible Study Fellowship for 10 years, deepening her faith and forming meaningful connections. A true coffee lover, she spent three joyful years working as a barista at the University of Notre Dame, where she brought warmth and conversation to every cup she served.
She was an amazing cook, a passionate shopper, and a devoted animal lover. Her beloved cat, Gizzy, was a constant source of joy and companionship. Deborah found beauty in everyday moments and brought joy to those around her through her kindness, creativity, and vibrant spirit.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Betty Zmyslo (1997); her father, Bernard Zmyslo (2005); and her brother, Mark Zmyslo, who passed on September 24, 2025.
Deborah is survived by her sister-in-law, Stella Zmyslo; her cherished nephew, Tyler Zmyslo; and many other family members who will continue to honor her memory and the love she shared so generously.
In keeping with the family’s wishes, no services will be held. Deborah will be laid to rest privately at St. Joseph Polish Roman Catholic Cemetery in South Bend. Palmer Funeral Homes – Hoven Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements.
