It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Vera Mae Wilson, affectionately known to her children as "momma". Born on August 26, 1953, in Memphis, TN, Vera lived a full life filled with love, laughter, and countless memories. She carried the heart of the South with her to South Bend, Indiana, where she resided until her passing. Vera was spunky but loving. She was honest and kind and loved to shower other with gifts. Vera was not only loved by her family but also by her Woodridge Assisted Living Community. She will be missed. Vera loved to shop, play bingo and spending money was one of her favorite past times. She loved to read and write letters but sending "just because" cards was ideal for her. Vera loved to laugh, and her heart was as big as the Indiana sky and her love was as warm as a Tennessee summer. Vera's legacy resides in the lives she touched. The comfort she provided and the love she shared. As Maya Angelou so eloquently said, "I've learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel." Vera embodied this sentiment, leaving a lasting impact on everyone she met.

Vera leaves behind a legacy of love and family, including her children Jamal (Sonia) Gaines Sr. and Sydney Wilson, grandchildren Isaiah, Jamal Jr., Jamarion, Ariyonna, and Ni'ema, Siblings Angela, Pam, Debra, George, Amos, Sterling, and Albert and an extensive network of nieces and nephews who will hold her memory close. Preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Christine Richmond, and siblings Bernice, Frank Jr., and Earl Richmond. Vera's spirit will continue to shine brightly in the hearts of her surviving family and friends.

A visitation for Vera will be held on Saturday, June 8, 2024, at 11:00am EST until 1 P.M at Alford's Mortuary, located at 1222 Napier Street, South Bend, Indiana, 46601. We invite all who knew and loved Vera to join us in celebrating her remarkable life. As we gather to remember Vera, we encourage you to share your memories and upload photos to her memorial page to ensure her spirit continues to inspire and touch lives, just as she did in life.
