Richard Paul Nowacki
May 8, 1951 ~ June 8, 2012 (age 61)
Richard P. Nowacki, 61, of South Bend, Indiana passed away Friday, June 8, 2012, in Hospice House, South Bend. Rick was born May 8, 1951, to Alex and Anna (Bikowski) Nowacki, in South Bend where he lived all his life.
Rick was employed with Goodwill Industries in the maintenance department. He liked working with his hands and was a "jack-of-all-trades". He enjoyed his job and the people he worked with. He deeply appreciated their kindness to him during his illness.
Rick graduated from Washington High School in 1969. He served his country in the Marine Corps in Vietnam, and was very proud of being a Marine. He was a member of the American Legion, Pulaski Post 357, and St. Hedwig Catholic Church.
Rick will be fondly remembered by family and co-workers for his funny, lovable pranks. He had a friendly, outgoing personality, a great sense of humor and was always willing to help others in whatever way he could. He was a great cook, especially grilling and smoking meat. His sweet sour cabbage, chili, meatloaf, and apple pie were outstanding. Rick was also a race car fan who enjoyed NASCAR and Indy car racing.
Rick is survived by his sister, Julianne Nowacki of South Bend, Indiana. He was preceded in death by his parents.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 16, 2012, in St. Hedwig Catholic Church, South Bend, where visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. until 11 a.m. in the church.
A heartfelt thank you to Dr. Rafat Ansari, the nurses, and staff at Michiana Hematology Oncology. Also, to the social worker and nurses of the Center for Hospice Care for their very competent and compassionate care.
