Mrs. Gladell Ames 85, of South Bend, Indiana passed away on February 10, 2022 at Memorial Hospital in South Bend, Indiana. Gladell was born on May 15, 1936 to the union of Ernest and Gladys Reed in Brownsville, Tennessee. She is the second of three children. After graduating from Washington High School, in 1954 she was united in holy matrimony with Horace Ames. During their life together, because her beloved Horace was in the United States Airforce, it allowed them to make a lifetime of beautiful memories in the United States and abroad. Some of their favorite places to call home include upstate New York, Madison Wisconsin and Amsterdam Holland, to name a few.

While station in Holland, they enjoyed traveling and sightseeing in Paris, Switzerland, Italy and Spain. In Gladell's travels, she was able to expand on her already wonderful cooking skills. After Horace retired from the United States Airforce, they settled in Scottsdale, Arizona where Gladell was a sales associate for the local Airforce Base and Horace embarked on a very successful real estate career, which allowed them to entertain clients lavishly in their dream home. Gladell was a loving, kind, generous person with a great sense of humor and an even bigger heart. She always had a special place in her heart for her nephew Rafael and her great nephew Quentin who she loved deeply. Proceeding her in death is her mother Gladys Reed, Father Ernest Reed, the love of her life, Horace and he lifelong best friend and sister, Ruth Morton. She is survived by her brother, Jack Reed (Mary) of South Bend, Indiana, her brother-in-law, Ralph Morton of South Bend, Indiana, her nephews Rafael Morton of South Bend and Quentin Barber of Oakland, California and special friend Anne Strickland. A Memorial Service in her honor will take place 11 A.M. Wednesday February 23, 2022 at Riverview Cemetery (All Faiths Chapel) 2300 Portage Ave. South Bend, IN 46628. Arrangements have been entrusted to www.boydandsonfuneralhome.com where condolences may be shared.
