Ronald Lee Dokes

Ronald Lee Dokes, Sr.

November 10, 1958 ~ January 5, 2020 (age 61)

Mr. Ronald Lee Dokes, Sr., affectionately known by his family as "MooMoo", 61, was born to J.C. and Edna Jean Dokes in Osceola, Arkansas on November 10, 1958.  He was peacefully called to Glory at 3:09 a.m., on Sunday, January 5, 2020, at home, in Granger, Indiana.

He was employed at the University of Notre Dame for 37 years.  He is a graduate of Washington High School. He met the love of his life, Glenda, whom he adored; they were united in holy matrimony on December 24, 1979, and were married for 40 years.  He confessed his life to Christ Jesus and attended Mt. Carmel Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership and direction of Rev. Rickardo Taylor, Sr., Pastor.

Ron was a loving husband, father and PawPaw. He enjoyed basketball (especially watching his grandsons play basketball), fishing and cooking. Ron was infamously known for his “prime rib”.  He touched many lives with his love and understanding, his words of encouragement and always willing to help anyone in need. Ron kept his endless sense of humor right up until his transition.

He leaves to cherish his memories: A loving wife, of 40 years,  Glenda Renae Dokes, Granger, Indiana, his five sisters: Toni Dokes, Joetta Wilson, Patricia Ann Dokes, Arenda (Darnell) Murray, all of South Bend, Indiana and Gaynale (Obel) Kilgore, Omaha, Nebraska; two brothers: James Carter (Barbara) Dokes, Sr. and Eric (Yolanda) Dokes, Sr., South Bend, Indiana; his children: Tammi (Victor) Jones, Ronald Lee (Monica) Dokes, Jr. and Chris Dawson and two grandsons, Brennan (L.G.) and Brayden Dokes, all of Indianapolis, Indiana.

He was preceded in death by his parents, J.C. and Edna Jean Dokes; brother Larry Dokes; sisters Gail Lynn Binion (Dokes) and Sharon Lee Dokes.  A special thank you to Dr.  Robin T. Zon for her continued constant care and support during the transitioning of our loving husband and father.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, January 13, 2020 at Mt. Carmel Missionary Baptist Church, 1620 S. St. Joseph Street, South Bend, Indiana.  Visitation will begin at 10:00a.m. and funeral services will begin at 11:00 a.m. Burial will be in HIghland Cemetary.
