Eugene T. "Gene" Meert

GRANGER - Eugene T. "Gene" Meert, 76 years old, passed away on Friday, August 21, 2015. He was born on September 9, 1938, to the late Louis and Germaine Meert.

Gene is survived by his wife, Erna; three sons, Kevin of Fort Wayne, Indiana, Carl of California and Glenn (Ellie) of Cincinnati, Ohio; one grandson, Jacob; one brother, Dan (Punky) Meert; one sister, Marlene Ogorek; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Preceding him in death were three brothers, Robert, James and Ronald; and three sisters, Florence Matthys, Eleanor Meert and Kathleen Sinka.

Gene was a member of Queen of Peace Catholic Church. Cremation has taken place.

A Celebration of Gene's life will be held on Saturday, Sept. 26, 2015, from 1 - 3 p.m. at the Greene Township Community Building, 24600 Roosevelt Road, South Bend, Indiana 46614. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Center for Hospice Care, Inc., 111 Sunnbrook Court, South Bend, Indiana 46637. Kaniewski Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
