Willa Mae Fisher

Willa M. Fisher, 66, devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and sister, who resided on Indiana Avenue, South Bend, Indiana, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, July 30, 2005, in Las Vegas, Nevada.

She was born August 27, 1938, in Stringtown, Mississippi, to James Matthews and Naomi Jennings, who both preceded her in death. She was a 1956 graduate of Washington High School, and in 1958 graduated from the South Bend College of Commerce.

Willa was united in holy matrimony to Elijah Fisher on September 6, 1958, and to their union were born Terri, Michael, Robin, Darren and Kelly.

Sister Fisher was baptized at Saints Memorial Church of God in Christ by Bishop J. B. Davis, and served in various capacities, including member and past president of the Les Lueurs, member and past chairman of the Missionary Circle, financial secretary, very special workers, R.O. Hatchet District, co-chairman of the pastor's anniversary committee, and board secretary for the C.H. Mason Bible College. She will be remembered most for her labor of love for Saints Memorial Church of God in Christ and her standards of excellence for any program she participated in.

For over 30 years, Mrs. Fisher worked as a secretary and procedures analyst for Associate Bancorp Company, and retired.

Those left to cherish her memory are her husband, Elijah Fisher; two daughters, Terri Fisher of Decatur, Ga., and Kelly Fisher of South Bend, Ind.; three sons and three daughters-in-law, Michael and Pat Fisher, Robin and Donna Fisher, Darren and Glenda Fisher, all of South Bend; eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; four sisters and three brothers-in-law, Naomi Johnson, Alta and Bishop J. Bernard Hackworth, all of Los Angeles, Juanita and Arthur Donnell Menifee, Calif., Gloria and Melvin Fuller of Decatur, Ga.; four brothers and three sisters-in-law, Sammie and Maudine Matthews of Flint, Mich., Percy and Ann Matthews of Los Angeles, David and Alfredia Braylark, and William Braylark, all of Lithonia, Ga.; one sister-in-law, Lucy and Leon Doaks of Columbus, Ohio; three special children, Tony Johnson of Bellingham, Wash., Lolita Johnson of South Bend and Tina Johnson of Richmond, Ind.; along with a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Willa was preceded in death by her parents, James Matthews, William and Naomi Braylark; and by a sister, Pearl Herron.

On Saturday, August 6, 2005, at 11 a.m., will be the visitation at Saints Memorial Church of God in Christ; the funeral service will be held at 12 noon, Elder Carl J. Steen Jr., pastor, will officiate, and Bishop J. Bernard Hackworth will deliver the eulogy. Her committal and final resting place will be at Highland Cemetery.
