In Memory
Nancy L. (Plumbeck) Baumgartner
October 3, 1947 ~ June 6, 2025
Nancy Baumgartner, a cherished wife, mother, Gigi, and sister, passed away on June 6, 2025. Born on October 3, 1947, Nancy's zest for life and her warm, engaging presence will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
Nancy is survived by her loving husband of 52 years, John Baumgartner; her devoted children, Brooke Zook and Blake Baumgartner; and her adored granddaughter, Zoey Zook. Her sister, Carol Groves, also survives her. She is predeceased by her parents, Ross and Ruth Plumbeck, and her brother, Lewis Plumbeck.
A proud alumna of Washington High School, Nancy graduated in 1966 before pursuing higher education at Purdue University, where she graduated in 1970. It was where her lifelong love for Purdue Basketball and Football began. After college she spent time in Europe traveling with her friends, gathering countless memories, and hilarious anecdotes. She then moved to Boston, fulfilling her dream of living in a big city. She worked three jobs to maintain that dream, and loved every single minute of it.
In 1973, she married John at a justice of the peace with their dear friends Linda and PJ as witnesses. They chose to wed on April Fools’ Day making everyone think they were kidding when they announced their marriage. Nancy even made her own purple wedding dress the morning of their wedding.
Transitioning from her 20-year tenure at Indiana Bell/Ameritech, Nancy embraced her love of exploration, becoming a travel agent at Edgerton Travel. She enjoyed the work so much, she continued to book trips for family and friends even after her retirement.
Nancy was an amazing mother, consistently putting her children and Zoey first, ready to do anything for them. Retiring early to care for Zoey was just one example of her unwavering commitment. Her presence at every game, bell in hand, was a testament to her steadfast support; she was always our number one fan.
A gregarious and engaging individual, Nancy easily made friends and was known for her quick wit and generous heart. She loved to host and created a welcoming atmosphere at her legendary parties. Her friendly, lively, and generous spirit left a lasting impression on all who knew her. Nancy treasured her Saturdays, spending them enjoying lake life, cheering on any team playing Notre Dame, and gathering with friends for dinner and drinks.
Her legacy will continue to live on in the hearts of her loved ones. She will be sorely missed, yet her memory will serve as a beacon of joy, love, and kindness for all who were lucky enough to have known her.
A Memorial will be held at a later date.
