SOUTH BEND – Joseph L.Szucsits, 77, passed away at 11:00 am Tuesday, December 2, 2008. Joseph was born on September 12, 1931 in South Bend to Joseph and Rozalia (Blaudek) Szucsits.Joe retired from the South Bend Fire Department in 1998 after 37 years of service. He was a Korean War veteran, a member of the National Veterans of Foreign Wars, and St.John the Baptist Catholic Church.

On September 13, 1958 in Holy Family Church, Joe married the former Dorothy Zdankus who survives. Also surviving are a daughter Cheryl Szucsits of Chicago; a son Kevin (Gail) Szucsits of South Bend; 2 grandchildren Justin and Danielle; a step-grandchild Melissa; a step-great-grandchild Brayden; and a sister Anna Rose (Melvin) Klute of South Bend.Joe was preceded in death by his parents and a sister Mary Molnar.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 am Saturday, December 6, 2008 in St. John the Baptist Catholic Church.Burial will follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery. Family and friends may call from 4-8 today in the Zahoran Funeral Home, 1826 S.Kemble Avenue where a rosary will be recited at 4:30.Memorial contributions may be made to St.John the Baptist Church.
