Lorraine T. (Petrowski) Niespodziany Wojcik, 93 years old, peacefully passed away at home on Saturday, August 10, 2024.
Lorraine was born on December 3, 1930 in South Bend to the late Edward and Alice (Pietrazak) Petrowski. On May 9, 1953, Lorraine married her first love, Edmund “Jack” V. Niespodziany who preceded her in 1975. She then married her second love in 1983, John Wojcik, who, preceded her in death in 2001. Lorraine is also preceded in death by her sister, MaryAnn Ross; son-in-law, Jon Colglazier; and step-daughter, Gwendolyn Metzler.
Left to cherish their memories of Lorraine are her children, Thomas (Rhonda) Niespodziany, John (Judy Morgan) Niespodziany, Jim (Michelle) Niespodziany, and Kim Colglazier; grandchildren: Christi Niespodziany, Thomas (Stacy) Niespodziany, Jr., Edmund (Kendall) Niespodziany, Jordan (Emma) Niespodziany, Nathan (Jennifer) Colglazier, and Hannah (Cody) Colglazier; great-grandchildren, Kaleb, Aiden, Chase, Madison, Jonna, Kacey, Cohen, and Oakley; sisters: Joan Petrowski and Angie Bajer; step-siblings, Jerry Sieradzki, Carol Lyle, Darlene Noe; brother-in-law, Richard Ross; step-daughter, Janet (James) Wight; step-grandsons, Donald, Robert, and James; and several nieces and nephews.
Lorraine was a lifelong member of St. Casimir Catholic Church. The church held great importance in her life as she experienced many milestones there. She was baptized, attended grade school, married, and attended weekly masses with her children as well. Lorraine graduated in 1949 from Washington High School. She was renowned as one of the top Soprano singers of this area during the 50s and 60s. She sang in the St. Casimir choir for over 70 years, belonged to the Presbyterian Players, and performed in many productions for James Lewis Cassidy. Lorraine was very fortunate to be able to visit the Medjugorje seven times, as well as the Holy Land with her son, Jim. In her spare time, Lorraine enjoyed knitting, crocheting, cooking, and singing. She also enjoyed spending time with family and friends at her Hudson Lake property, which she owned with her sisters for 65 years. Above all, she loved spending time with her children and grandchildren.
The family would like to thank all the nurses and staff of Heartland Hospice for their loving support and services.
Friends and family will be received from 10:00am-12:00pm on Wednesday, August 14, 2024 at St. Joseph Funeral Home, 824 S Mayflower Rd, South Bend, with a Rosary to be prayed at 9:30am prior to visitation. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated that day at 12:30pm at St. Casimir Catholic Church, 1302 W Dunham St, South Bend. Burial will immediately follow in St. Joseph Cemetery in South Bend.
