Eugene “Butch, Jocko” Joachim
Eugene "Jocko" Joachim, 84, passed away after a short illness, on Thursday, November 12, 2015. Jocko was born March 23, 1931 in South Bend, Indiana to Albert & Sophie (Byrus) Joachim. Returning from military service in the Marines, he met and married his angel, Myra Kochanowski in South Bend, Indiana on May 28, 1955.
Jocko is survived by two sons and one daughter, Jim, Jerome and Jill Joachim, all of South Bend. He is also survived by granddaughter, Caitlin Day (Pat Day) of Mishawaka; one grandson, Jimmy Joachim and his fiancé, JoAnna DeSmith of Noblesville, IN and a great granddaughter, Ryan Day of Mishawaka. Jocko is also survived by one brother, George Albert Joachim of South Bend, IN. He was preceded in death by his parents and five brothers and two sisters.
Jocko worked most of his life at Clyde E Williams and Assoc. as an accountant. His life was full beyond work. Jocko lived for his young children, sports, seeing the USA in a Chevrolet, the Indianapolis 500 and Notre Dame Football. He was a devoted Catholic.
One very special part of his life was volunteering at a local Maple Sugar Camp as woodcutter and fireman. It was a labor of love and his friends from the camp were so very important to him.
Visitation will be on Monday, November 16 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. with funeral services at 1 p.m. in Hahn Funeral Home, 505 W. 8th Street, Mishawaka. Rev. Edmund Sylvia CSC will officiate. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Semper Fi Fund, 825 College Blvd, Suite 102 PMB 609, Oceanside, CA 92057. As a very proud former Marine, Jocko would be glad to know fellow Marines are being helped in his name.
