In Memory
Richard Allen Fenimore
October 10, 1930 — April 15, 2025
Richard Allen “Dick” Fenimore, 94, passed away Tuesday, April 15, 2025, at his home in Mishawaka. He was born Oct. 10, 1930, in South Bend, Indiana, to the late Theodore and Blanche (Fiwek) Fenimore. Following his graduation from Washington High School, Dick enlisted in the U.S. Navy, serving honorably during the Korean War from 1951 to 1954. He was a torpedoman’s mate, third class, aboard the USS Dashiel, DD-659. One of the highlights of his time in the Navy was a world cruise in 1953, where he had the chance to cross the equator, a story he loved to share with family and friends. On Oct. 23, 1976, he married his true love, Nancy Marie Chlebowski. She preceded him in death in May of 2024.
He is survived by his children, Jeff Jennings, Kimberly (Kirk) Singleton and Denise (Michael) Halfast; his grandchildren, Ashlee Jennings, Kyle Singleton, Chase Halfast, Kelsey Halfast and Rebecca Halfast; and his great-grandchildren, Evan Marder, Grant Marder and Adelyn Halfast. Also surviving is his sister, Rosie (Ronald) Beemer. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Robert Fenimore and Theodore Fenimore Jr.
Richard was a hard worker and spent over 32 years as a terminal manager for Amoco Oil before his retirement. In his spare time, he loved to play golf and could spend hours out on the course, enjoying the game in the company of good friends. When he wasn’t golfing, you could often find him at a chessboard, or reading a book about history, historical military stories, or a good mystery novel. He was also a fantastic cook, and his homemade chili was one of his specialties.
But more than anything else, Richard loved his family. His grandkids were the center of his world. He was always there to help with math homework, school projects, or anything else they needed. His family always came first, and he made sure they knew how much he loved them.
Visitation will be held two hours prior to the 4:00 pm Celebration of Life and military honors service Sunday, April 27, 2025, at Cruz Family Funeral Home in Osceola.
