Valaire Vincent DeCook

SOUTH BEND - Valaire V. DeCook, 83, passed away at 11:20 am Tuesday, May 21, 2013, in Southfield Meadows. Valaire was born May 13, 1930, in South Bend, to the late Valaire and Eleanor (Leodanski) DeCook.

Valaire was also preceded in death by a brother, Robert DeCook.

On June 6, 1964, in South Bend, Valaire married Shirley (Davis) DeCook. She survives along with a son, Don Michael (Phelan) Webb of Greensboro, NC; granddaughters, Rebecca Webb of TN and Rachael Webb of South Korea; step-grandson, Marcus McGowan; and step-granddaughter, Christiana McGowan.

Valaire served his country in the United States Navy during the Korean War aboard the USS Beale, and was a member of the American Legion 77777 Indianapolis. He retired from the Raco Corporation in 2000 after 39 years of service. Valaire was a member of St. Mary's Polish National Catholic Church, where he engaged in working on church projects. He enjoyed gardening, photography, vacationing, and his pets, Sparky, Kitty and Felix.
