Noreen J. (Kuehl) Yates

Noreen Joanne (Kuehl) Yates, 47, took her last breath at 11:53 a.m. Monday, May 7, in Monticello, Ind. Though cancer had invaded her brain and life, she remained woman, wife, mother, friend, sister, neighbor, aunt, stepmom and grandma through it all and to the end.

Born to Irene and George Kuehl on Aug. 3, 1953, in Clayton, Mo., Noreen was dearly loved. In 1971 she was graduated from Washington High School, South Bend, Ind., and went on to attend Indiana State University in Terre Haute, Ind.

In 1976 she wed Francis Yates of Kentland, Ind., where the two of them made their home. Later they moved to Sheldon, IlI., and welcomed their newborn son, Trent Yates, into the world in November 1980.

After several years the family moved to Monticello, and it was here Noreen spent the last months of her life being cared for at home by her loving husband.

Noreen is survived by her husband, Francis Yates of Monticello; a son, Trent Yates of Monticello; stepson, Rick Yates and wife, Michelle of Monon, Ind.; stepgrandchildren, Ricky Yates, Dustin Yates, Dillon Yates and Ashley Yates; brothers, Dan Kuehl and wife, Sherry in Colorado, Tim Kuehl and wife, Diana in Texas; and her sister, Kathleen in Minnesota. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews, including great ones.

She was preceded in death by her mother in 1996, her father in 2000, and by her stepson, Terry Yates in 1999.

Noreen was the neatest gift that her parents ever gave. Till we meet again where there will be no more tears, pain, sorrowing or death.

Visitation will begin at .4 p.m. Thursday, May 10, in the Voorhis Draper Funeral Home, 202 S. Illinois Street in Monticello. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Friday, May 11, in Monticello, in the Lutheran Church of Our Savior, 122 Condo Street.
